Andres Barnett – Co-Founder
Andres Barnett is a psychology major at St. John’s University in Jamaica, Queens. Jamaican Lives Better was born from a deep conversation between him and his sister during his sophomore year. Inspired by their shared passion for service, they envisioned an organization dedicated to uplifting underserved communities. What started as an idea quickly became a mission—they did whatever it took to bring Jamaican Lives Better to life, driven by a commitment to making real change.
Andres is deeply passionate about giving back and ensuring that those in need have access to resources and opportunities. His vision for JLB extends beyond Jamaica, with plans to grow internationally and support underserved communities worldwide. Through advocacy, empowerment, and action, he remains dedicated to making a lasting impact on as many lives as possible.
JLB collaborates with community-based providers to enhance funding, advocacy, and medical support in the regions we serve. A key partnership is with the St. James Jamaica Medical Mission—a humanitarian mission that has been supporting Port Maria, Jamaica, and neighboring communities for over 34 years.
The mission’s highlights include:
In November 2019, JLB organized its first fundraiser, which successfully contributed to the early 2020 St. James Jamaica Medical Mission. Despite the pandemic’s challenges, JLB continued to impact the Port Maria community. In March 2022, we launched "Giving Day for Albion," which provided Albion Mountain Primary School with laptops, projectors, and other essential technology, enhancing their music and education programs.
